Breast cancer arises in the breast tissue. This type of cancer is an abnormal cell group having abnormal growth patterns. The breast cancer is mainly a disease found in women but nearly 1% of breast cancers happen in men.
The breast cancer is a very common kind of cancer occurring in women. You should note that it is the second most leading cause for death due to cancer among women. It comes next only to lung cancer in this list.
The women face lifetime risk to develop invasive breast cancer. This risk is nearly 13% or one in eight. The death rates due to breast cancer are gradually declining. These decreases are perhaps because of increased awareness, screening and better treatment methods. There are presently close to 2.5 million survivors of breast cancer in the U.S.
Now let us analyze the breast cancer symptoms. The early form of breast cancer does not show any symptoms. It is generally not painful. Mostly the breast cancer gets discovered prior to the symptoms getting shown. This is done by finding the abnormality on mammography or getting the feel of breast lump.
The lump in armpit or up the collarbone which does not go away might indicate cancer. There are other symptoms possible for it such as nipple inversion, breast discharge, or the changes occurring in skin overlying breast.
Mostly the breast lumps are not cancerous in nature. But all the breast lumps still require an evaluation by the doctor. The breast discharge acts as a common problem. It rarely indicates cancer. The discharge shows much concern if it is just from one breast or it is bloody. For any case, all the breast discharges need an evaluation.
The nipple inversion acts as a common variant of the normal nipples. However, the nipple inversion being a new development might be a concern.
The changes occurring in the skin of breast could be redness, puckering and changes in texture. These changes are generally caused due to skin diseases. However, occasionally they can relate to breast cancer.
If you suffer from any such symptoms you should immediately consult a doctor and take necessary steps for breast cancer prevention. Early measures can surely help to control this disease and risks associated with it.
