Standard Aspects Of Sign Writing

Sign writing is the art of creating the actual message on the substrate you are using. Whether it is a small directional or informative sign, or a massive banner on top of a building, your signs need to be printed or written and how you do that, involves certain areas of expertise. Letters and fonts are the most important aspects of a sign.

Standard Aspects of Sign Writing

Some fonts e.g. are more attractive than others and it needs careful analysis to find out what fonts can make people look at the banners and sign writing and what fonts would look mundane. On the other hand, some fonts are more easily readable than others. At the end of the day it also depends on the message and the industry. While a florist can get away with decorative fonts and beautiful strokes, a banner issued in public interest needs to be straight forward and simple.

Apart from the letter fonts, the way numbers are written is also important to a sign writer. Many signs have multiple tiers of information starting with the name of the company, to the tagline and conditions if any. Each of them needs to be highlighted with different priority too. One of the most important aspects is the technology used to carve out letters, whether you are printing them, stitching them or engraving them.

If you are engraving them, your sign color and that of the background too has to be totally different from the case where you have a bright banner and dark letters printed on them to create contrast.
